As I mentioned in yesterday’s post about my auction buys, I got this unique antique desk. I have so many options on how to fix it up that I thought I’d share my ideas and see if any of my readers have any ideas to add.

The previous owner probably had a good reason for taking out the top of the desk and replacing it with plexiglass. I think it’s a really neat idea because the desk can easily be decorated to match different decor.

My husband says he likes it as-is because it has that rustic look.  That would be okay except for when the drawer is filled full of stuff — then it probably wouldn’t look so great unless everything was put in there neatly (which isn’t likely to happen at my house). I’m thinking it would look neat with fabric, scrap-booking paper, or wrapping paper underneath the plexiglass to dress it up.

The fabric below was in the desk when I bought it, but I don’t think it’s the best choice:

I thought this wrapping paper looked really neat. This was all I had left so it didn’t cover the top completely. If I had some frame mattes handy I would show what it would look like to put photos in the mattes on top of the neat paper.

Those are my ideas. I know there are some really creative people out there, so please feel free to share your ideas! 🙂

  1. The desk is really cute. I love the idea of decorative paper and maybe some black & white photos (I love black & whites). A homemade fabric flag would be great around the 4th. Old postcards may be nice too! Just a thought!
