Many of you know that Kathy Cecchin, “The Junk Queen” passed away in early December.  She will be missed in the estate sale and antiques community — she was so nice and very knowledgeable about “junk”. This Friday we will all have the opportunity to celebrate her at her estate auction. The lovely lady that moved from this home to a nursing facility, lost her family home as a young girl in Leopold, Germany,  when Germany was split between east and west, in 1948.  They could either become communists, or leave their home, land and all their belongings.   Leaving only with the clothes on their backs, they headed to Berlin to the Air lifts, where she met her future husband a U.S. serviceman in he Air Force.  After living at many air force bases abroad and in the U.S., this lady, her Air Force husband and their seven children settled in Glen Rose, Arkansas as it reminded her of her homeland.  This family has served our country very well, as the Father and four of the seven children, served in the U.S. armed forces.  Totaling approximately 130 years service!  The actual story of ths lady was a little more harrowing as she was 15 years old at the time the zrussians began occupying Germany. Her parents sent her out with a knap sack across east germany  to safety as the Russians were already removing young people from homes to go back to Russia to work in the factories. I will have copies of her recollection of the events for you to take home with you!!

Looks like the number of sales will really pick up next week. And then *gasp* the Antique Alley Arkansas Antique Show will be the following weekend (January 21-22). If you haven’t been following the show lately, it was listed in Southern Living magazine’s January calendar. The 40,000 sq. ft. building is already almost fully booked. I get calls multiple times a day! I’ve loaded photos on the website and Facebook page of many of the dealers’ booths if you want to see glimpses of what I call “antiques heaven”.

I have the little angels below displayed all year long in my china cabinet.  They are taper candle holders.  I got them earlier this year at one of Roy Dudley’s estate sales.

I have a small collection of Noel figurines.  I love the ones where each figurine holds a letter and together they spell “Noel”.  I found most of the ones below at Estate Sales by Nick.

Here are my miscellaneous Christmas figurines.  The boy sitting on the candy cane is actually a salt and pepper set!  I won most of the ones below at Thacker Auctions in Judsonia years ago!

My favorite of them all still has to be Shopper Girl by Napco.  She and her little poodle caught my eye back when I first started collecting.  I bought her on eBay.  The caroler in the photo is also a Napco figurine.  Not sure why, but her hand muff has a hole in it.

A really close favorite is this Lefton Christmas girl planter that I have at Jenifer’s Antiques.  I paid too much for her to keep her, but until she sells, I get to enjoy her in my booth.

Last but not least, is my silly Santa and bobble-head reindeer planter.  The reindeer has been repaired quite a few times from breakage, but it seems to add to its peculiarity.  I got it at a garage sale for $1.50!

The camera angle above actually makes it look better than it is. The reindeer’s eyes are crossed and his ears are chipped, which looks pretty funny!

We require 85% of each booth’s inventory in the Antique Alley Arkansas Antique Show to be from the 1950′s and before, so I always grill every possible dealer to make sure they’ll be a good fit.  Any doubts (I really didn’t have any) were put aside when I pulled up to the adorable old house.  Lots of retro outdoor items, like vintage gliders, decorate the front porch and yard.  I could tell I was in for a neat experience.

Upon entering the shop,  my eyes were drawn to these bright-pink chairs:

Mary does upholstery work along with refinishing furniture.  She also makes custom headboards, pillows, and lampshades.

Below, she has painted the table and chair a light pink.  She made the pillows and lampshade:

Another fun piece in the first room was the dresser below.  I love the color combination and the flower pulls!

Another brightly-colored chest-of-drawers was in a different room:

This is a great funky combo of colors, yet again with some neat pulls:

Some pieces are allowed to keep their original finish like this wonderful buffet with china hutch top.

Designing Elements in Morrilton, Arkansas is a real treat.  Visiting with Mary is the cherry on top because she’s super nice and really loves what she does.  If you’re in the area, I’d definitely recommend stopping by!
