Things are insane right now as I’m trying to get ready for the Antique Alley Arkansas Antique Show next weekend. There are some incredible exhibitors coming so I’m working double-time to make sure we get plenty of customers to make their road trips from Kansas, Indiana, New York, and 7 other states worthwhile. I’m looking forward to a great antique show!
I found out the estate that was auctioned off by Dalton Dailey & Associates yesterday was broken into and multiple items stolen last week. I spoke with Ray Hightower, the auctioneer, for over an hour and a half last week as he told me about things that were stolen. After all the work Ray and others put into organizing the auction, they are very upset about all of this and hope to find the people who did it. The thieves knew what they were doing as they broke into a side door and then put large pieces of artwork over the windows so no one could tell they were inside. The thieves also knew their antiques for the most part and took many of the better smalls. However, why they stole two big sets of china doesn’t make sense to me because no one seems to buy china anymore. The photos were posted on the auction websites, but by now they are taken down due to the auction date being Wednesday, so I took screenshots of all the photos of stolen items and posted them on AshleysFinds.com. On a lighter note, I used to go to the Dalton Dailey auctions all the time when I first started out as a junker. Ray would call Avon Cape Cod glass “Rare Nova Glass” and of course make sure we knew he was joking. Then one time one of the regular bidders bought a box of shoes and later found a Rolex watch worth big bucks hidden in one of the shoes. What I learned from our conversation was that the family was going to donate the box of shoes to Goodwill and Ray told them to just leave them for the auction and never thought to check the shoes for any hidden treasures. It was fun reminiscing.
