The Arkansas Glasshoppers, Inc., is proud to announce that it is cohosting “Rocking Reamers” Glass Show & Sale as part of the National Reamer Collectors Association’s (NRCA) annual convention in North Little Rock, Arkansas, at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel, 2 Riverfront Place, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72114-5653. The “Rocking Reamers” Glass Show & Sale is a “must see” event for reamer and Depression-Era glass collectors and enthusiasts, history buffs, and any and all people who are curious about popular antique and vintage collectibles. The “Rocking Reamers” Glass Show & Sale is open to the public to shop, learn, and visit with NRCA members about reamers, the history of reamers, and other Depression-Era and vintage glass on Friday, May 15, 2015, from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. and Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. Admission and parking is free. The hotel is handicapped accessible.
The NRCA was founded in 1980 for those who collect, buy, sell, and trade reamers. The NRCA has over 150 members in the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. “Reamers” are primarily citrus juice extractors with a ridged and pointed center rising from a shallow dish, with the first use of reamers beginning circa 1825. Reamers are also known as orange juice squeezers or juicers and are one of the fastest growing collectibles in America today, primarily because they have been replaced in the modern kitchen with electric juicers, bottled orange juice, or frozen orange juice concentrate. Many reamers collected today are from the Depression-Era or vintage pieces. Many are crafted out of glass.
Visitors to the “Rocking Reamers” Glass Show & Sale will see a variety of reamers on display and reamers for sale, including limited edition souvenir reamers, as well as other Depression-Era and vintage glass. Also, visitors will be able to participate in educational sessions and a raffle. This year’s convention is dedicated to the memory of the late Richard “Dick” Winne, an Arkansas glass collector and past president of the NRCA who was Chair of “Rocking Reamers” until his untimely and sudden passing in December 2014.
