Those of you who have been subscribers for at least the past year have read as I tried to figure out what to do about my “other house”. Almost two years ago Big Caleb “accidentally” clicked “Send me more info” on a home listing and a realtor we knew contacted us immediately. In no time we found the perfect house; however, I was in no way ready to move. I hustled as much as an entrepreneur mom with an 8 month old could to get the house ready, but it still took me 9 months to get the house listed. Soon after listing the house, the realtor told us no one was checking out the house because it only had 2 bedrooms, so we added a 3rd bedroom, and then we had a bunch of lookers but only 2 low-ball offers in over a year. A little over a month ago Zillow sent me an email saying the market for the Rolling Oaks area in Maumelle was a .5 out of 10 (Market Temperature: Chilly). We received a lowball offer soon after and we countered. The buyer accepted the counter, but wanted lots of extras (attic ladder installed, carpets steam-cleaned, and house cleaned). We accepted it and then waited for the “repair” list, which ended up being a doozy of over $1,500 in upgrades (not repairs) they wanted. After much deliberation and gnashing of teeth, we accepted the repairs as well. Needless to say we lost our booty on the place, but it’s not ours anymore! I was expecting to waste another summer over there doing repairs and extras to get the place to sell and I’m so thrilled I won’t have to. I have to give a shout-out to Rick Poole (Message me if you need a great paint/dry wall guy!), who helped me a couple years ago with painting and dry-wall repair, because he installed the attic ladder for me even though he hadn’t installed one before and did it for a very reasonable price. Then Jetalex Services came in and steam-cleaned the carpets and cleaned the house for a great price. The owner of Jetalex is an incredibly hard-working young guy. Right after I called him to clean our carpet is when so many were dealing with flooding. To meet the deadline, he was at the house after midnight multiple nights. I had turned off the hot water heater so it wouldn’t be sitting unused, so Jeff heated water on the stove so he could properly clean the carpet. He was able to get stains out of the carpet that I had worked hours on. Heck, I was working on them when Little Caleb took his first steps! I’m so excited to be free of that house – two years is a long time to be tied down!
