Upcoming Estate Sales and Auctions for December 14 – 17

Last night I got to go to the Glasshoppers’ Christmas party and had a great time. They had dinner and a Dirty Santa game planned at Cantina Laredo. Since I can think of few things better than great food and “fighting” over depression glass, I was all in. I didn’t want to give away any of my collection, so I went shopping at one of our local shops and found a great piece 50% off, which made the price fall right at our spending limit of $20. If you haven’t played Dirty Santa before, basically everyone brings a wrapped gift, puts it on a table, and draws a number. Gifts are opened in the order of the numbers drawn starting with one, so based on the number drawn, a person can steal a gift that’s already been opened or pick an unopened one. The most coveted number is 1, because number 1 opens a gift first and then can steal from anyone after everyone has opened a gift. I drew the number 1!! I have played Dirty Santa many times over the years and never been so lucky. I got to choose from Rosepoint pieces, American Fostoria, handled servers, cake plates, Cambridge pieces, and over 30 other items. The amazing thing is that out of all of us, someone in the room knew the name and pattern of each piece, so it was educational as well. I ended up choosing the Lancaster Glass yellow/topaz handled server with the Landrum pattern. I love the color yellow, so it was a pretty easy choice. Now I’ll have something new to look for while out junkin’ to add to that piece. The highlight of the night for me was that the person who had the 50% off glassware where I got my item was a member of the club and was at the party. Multiple other members who were at the party bought from the same person and I overheard him say, “Well, looks like I’ll make my rent this month!” which really cracked me up because anybody who has or has had booths knows the struggle is real. The Mexican Brownie with ice cream on top was a highlight (amazing!) too.
