I made it! I survived the hardest two weeks of the year and they turned out great in the end. I wasn’t so sure how it was going to all turn out before! And I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have done it without the support of Robin, Big Caleb, Little Caleb, and my parents, not to mention my awesome exhibitors and customers. Even after receiving so many cancellations for the Zonta Antique Show, a customer who has been coming to the show for years made a point to tell us that it was the best looking show he had been to in many years, which was an awesome feeling after all the grief I had been through trying to fill the building after so many exhibitors got the flu and had emergencies. Everything went pretty smoothly for last week’s Bella Rustina in Maumelle. There were surprises, the biggest one being the lights didn’t work in the back of the building. I had asked about them weeks ago, but I guess there was a miscommunication because I thought I understood there were lights back there. I found out Tuesday the lights didn’t work, but I didn’t formally have the building until Wednesday. On Wednesday morning my parents were able to make time to buy a bunch of clip-on flood lights while I marked off booths and got everyone started setting up, but the lights weren’t bright enough. After my 5:40 TV interview Thursday morning I ran into Lowe’s and spent a couple hundred on fluorescent lights, but didn’t have time to rent a lift to properly hang them, so we did the best we could and the lighting turned out okay. One surprise that is still throwing me for a loop is that I had a few customers complain there was “too much flea market and antique items” and “not enough modern items” at the show. As far as I’m concerned the comments could have just as well been positive had they been worded differently. I guess I’m losing touch with some demographics and I will work on that for future shows, but Bella Rustina still turned out awesome. By Sunday most booths were sold down quite a bit and we only had one exhibitor still moving out that night at 9PM, which is amazing considering the Wal-Mart building is not load in/out friendly! We had our 3rd-best attendance too (out of the 30 shows I’ve promoted), which is awesome for a new location. I hope to have another Bella Rustina in Maumelle if the building is still available either in the Summer or Fall.
Everyone probably knows by now, but the Pennsylvania Trading Co. sale that was planned for this weekend has been cancelled. Sounds like it was a great sale, so hopefully it’ll be moved to another weekend. Below is the list of sales I know of for this weekend.
