Upcoming Estate Sales and Auctions for October 10 – 13

Greenville, South Carolina was such a neat city! Years ago it was discovered that a freeway was covering up a gem in their community: A waterfall! Through lots of hard work the freeway was re-routed and now the city has a beautiful waterfall in their downtown area. What’s even neater is the river around the waterfall is shallow, so Little Caleb got to hunt for critters nearby. The waterfall was maybe two blocks from our hotel. We never needed a reason to drive anywhere because we had a river and waterfall to check out. Then there is the “Mice on Main St.” where a dozen or so mice statues are hidden along Main Street for people to find using clues. It was a super cool place and I’m so glad we brought the boys.

It finally hit me last Thursday that since I wasn’t having any luck finding shops to go to that I should look up the estate sales! I found one on estatesales.net to check out and we went on Friday. In South Carolina, estate sales are full price the first couple of days, prices negotiable on the third day, and then half price or lower on the last day. I got there on the third day of the sale and noticed their prices were a tad high for my taste. Then I was told that they would negotiate, so I started negotiating and did pretty well.

This isn’t the best photo because it’s from when I was checking out at the sale, but I was able to get a couple pieces of Pyrex, some Lincoln Logs for Little Caleb, a vintage Tonka truck for Joshua, and a little vintage Santa ornament. Little Caleb loves the Lincoln Logs. He brought them with us to the hotel room and I made the mistake of pouring them out on the floor. Not only did I pour out Lincoln Log pieces, but also a big pile of sawdust and mouse turds. Thankfully the lady at the hotel desk didn’t ask for any details when I asked to borrow a broom and dustpan!

After the estate sale we went to a nearby vintage market. It ended up being a small event in an arena with a dirt floor with no air conditioning. It was very hot, but I ended up finding stuff. One lady had a bunch of vintage Christmas ornaments. As I was picking out the ones I liked Little Caleb came up and started picking out birds he liked. They were priced right so I let him get a few for our tree. I found the vintage egg basket and that small baggy of butterfly-shaped ceramic Christmas tree lights at one of the shops we stopped at. My favorite finds at the vintage market were those arrangements with old spice canisters. The lady filled her space with little arrangements with themes like Christmas, Fall, Halloween, and more. I wish we had an exhibitor closer to home that created similar arrangements because they are SO cute! I had to get a couple arrangements for myself. I actually knew a couple of the exhibitors at the show and one introduced me to an exhibitor from Georgia who wants to try out Bella Rustina, so that was the cherry on top.

We stopped in Nashville for an Exotic Pet Show, so I made sure to look for estate sales in the area since we were stopping. I found an awesome sale by an antique show dealer. The items that were marked were high, but I found a couple pottery vases with no prices and asked. The dealer gave me a great price and told me all prices were negotiable, so I began negotiating again and ended up with a whole pile of things. I didn’t get any steals, but I got some good, solid vintage items. The vases are Weller pottery and Schramberg pottery, which are exciting finds to me. The U.S. Navy Medical Department blanket is really neat along with the 1931 National Biscuit Company sack. I don’t even like Pepsi, but I made the mistake of looking at the sign and the antique dealer kept going down on the price until I couldn’t refuse.

I thought all my junking was done, but a lady messaged me through Facebook saying she had vintage blow molds for sale. I had to go to Conway on Monday anyway and she was in Greenbrier, so I decided to go look. I came home with a truckload!

I can’t wait to display them at the November 9-10 Bella Rustina! Then whichever ones don’t sell can be used to decorate our yard. The boys will love it! As I was unloading them Little Caleb was my light checker and he plugged in each one to see if the light worked. He got so excited that I may have to pick out a few pieces beforehand to keep.

I have really enjoyed getting in my junk therapy during the last few days. It has been too long! Here are some opportunities for this weekend:
