“Dad, I love you 10x more than turtles”
Little Caleb cracks me up. I’ve been up to my eyeballs getting ready for the July 10-12 Bella Rustina, so Big Caleb’s Father’s Day gift was wrapped in brown paper. I thought it would be fun for Little Caleb to write on the paper so it wasn’t plain. He immediately said he wanted to write, “Dad, I love you ten times more than turtles,” which really couldn’t be more awesome. Little Caleb found two turtles in our yard within a week’s time, so he’s had turtles on the brain. The first turtle was most likely a male turtle and the second a female. He was really good about releasing the turtles, thank goodness, but I’ll never forget what he said after releasing the female. He told me he had to let the female turtle go so she could find the male turtle and they could “love on each other and make precious babies”. I made sure to ask him to repeat that so I could get it on video so we can have it to laugh at for years to come. Never a dull moment at my house.

Larry Zabel was born in Deer Creek, Minnesota and as a boy spent his time drawing and carving. For years, the well-known and well-respected artist, who passed away in 2012, lived and worked on his ranch in McAllister, Montana, just 70 miles from Yellowstone. Zabel started his career by earning a degree in art from Long Beach State, then spent a year studying art at Mexico City College. He then worked in commercial art and began documenting activities at the Naval Weapons Center in California.
