Upcoming Estate Sales and Auctions for June 30 – July 3

Last weekend was probably the hottest weekend of the year, yet my neighbor across the street and myself had a yard sale. We were supposed to do it early June, but my neighbor got Covid and we had to postpone. If it hadn’t been for my tent and a large fan, I don’t think I could have done it with the heat index well over 100 degrees. My neighbor and her friend have a yard sale every year to raise money to go to the beach so they are hardcore. I always do it because I have way too much stuff. My neighbor and her friend bring in trailer loads from who-knows-where and they borrowed (and filled!) twenty of my 8′ tables. We were all up before 4AM and outside before sunrise Friday-Saturday and they would stay out until nightfall. Both days I couldn’t stand it any longer at around 4:30PM and I’d come in and take a shower, hang out with the boys, fall asleep sitting up, and then go back out around 6:00ish until dark. I didn’t make enough money for it to be worth my time, BUT the camaraderie with my neighbors and organizing of my building made it worth it. I invited my next-door neighbor to bring some stuff over to sell. She has super nice things and always elevates my sale. Then a neighbor who has two boys Little Caleb plays with brought over lemonade and the three boys had a lemonade stand. I brought out a huge rainbow-colored umbrella that I bought from the Riverfest liquidation years ago so the boys would have some shade. I wish I would have taken pictures, but the boys didn’t last long at any one time in the heat.

We bought well from the neighbors. I bought a large round folding table to use for the shows and Little Caleb got set of golf clubs and a small fish tank for his recently-acquired crawfish. Little Caleb can’t wait to go to his Granny and Pa’s house to hit golf balls in their field. I can only imagine all the ways it could go wrong, but I’ve been teaching him good form and he has picked it up pretty well.

My biggest accomplishment for the weekend is I finally organized my storage building. When we moved here, Little Caleb was only a few months old and many boxes haven’t seen the light of day since then (over 7 years!). I found some fantastic yellow Pyrex pieces I forgot I had and many other great things. When I had booths, I would label my items with the date I found them and the price I paid. For some reason I only put 0620500 on the Pyrex, which means I only paid $5 for the yellow square hostess dish with lid on June 20 (I wish I would have put the year!). We know I bought it before the Pyrex craze because $5 Pyrex is pretty much nonexistent these days! I love the color yellow so I’ll be adding those pieces to my Pyrex collection.

In honor of Independence Day I had to share Little Caleb’s drawing of the Statue of Liberty. He drew it sometime this spring at school. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Here are the sales I know about for this weekend:

V Smith Estate Sales

Tuesday – Thursday, June 28 – 30
4:00PM – 7:00PM

6 Ridge Rd.
Searcy, Arkansas 72143

Since it’s a jam-packed summer, we’re hosting a mid-week, evening event in order to accommodate this estate.
The volume is small, but nearly everything in this architecturally noteworthy house is vintage and collectible. Highlights include a painted wicker chaise with full-length cushion, mid-century candlesticks and barware, and Brown Jordan patio furniture.
There is a full set of mahogany dining room furniture, including a buffet and china cabinet and a half-dozen sets of dishes and stemware, from casual to formal.
There is vintage barware, a very large set of Denby Sweden yellow Mirage glasses, at least 200 silk, cashmere and wool scarves, name-brand women’s clothing (size S and M), purses and accessories.
The only furniture for sale is shown in the photos, but it’s all in excellent condition. There are no beds or bedroom furniture; there is one sleeper sofa. There are no garage/shop items, guns, coins or tools, but there are a dozen or so planters and plant stands.
There are hundreds of books, mostly paperbacks and contemporary hardcover. We will sell the paperbacks by the basket, so you can get all your summer reading material for $5. There are a few older books and college yearbooks that will be priced separately.
The only tricky part is getting to the site. The driveway is long, narrow and curvy, so we will need to control traffic coming and going. We will permit drop-offs at the door for those who need special assistance, but most cars will have to park at the bottom of the hill or wait until there’s a free parking spot up top. For fitness buffs, you’ll enjoy the brisk walk.
