I just realized I didn’t take any photos today of the Zonta Antique Show setup at the Maude Cobb Convention Center in Longview, Texas. I’ve been the exhibitor director of the Zonta Antique Show for 10 years. This show is typically a tad stressful leading up to load-in day and then smooth for the duration. This year things are the opposite. Today started out great – I got the kids to school on time and then hit the road for Longview. Even though some weird construction caused me to miss my exit in Texarkana, I still arrived at a decent time. One of my workers (who is homeless yet has kept up with the show dates every year for around 10 years) was waiting on me when I arrived and he helped me get everything knocked out before exhibitors started moving in. I noticed the show director was not there and asked only to find out she had a family emergency and probably won’t be at the show all weekend. Then I found out there was a misunderstanding on my table counts so I had to order more tables. Easy solution, so no problem. But around 3:30 the “crap hit the fan” all at once. One exhibitor discovered who her neighbor would be and decided it was the end of the world for him to be her neighbor and demanded I move him. At the same moment she’s going off, I receive a text from an exhibitor saying he forgot about the show and he can’t come (that’s a first!). While I was trying to figure out how to handle the unhappy exhibitor, another exhibitor canceled. What were my solutions? I’m emailing back and forth with the show director to finish up the antique show program (I can guarantee this will be a disaster, but that’s tomorrow’s problem), the unhappy exhibitor switched places with a newbie exhibitor who hadn’t arrived yet and didn’t have expectations for his booth location. Neighboring exhibitors get to spread out to fill the canceled spots and I was able to create more seating for the eating area. Only y’all will know my chaos – The Zonta Antique Show will look amazing as if I was sitting around with my feet propped up all day. 😀 I’ll take some photos and share them on the Zonta Antique Show Facebook page first thing in the morning.
