| I survived! Barely, but that counts. The last month has been the hardest of the year with two shows almost back-to-back. The Conway show in August wasn’t too hard on me, but the Rogers show will be a challenge until it is established. Last weekend’s Rogers show was gorgeous – I am so proud of how it looked, but leading up to it I had multiple exhibitors cancel, attempt to cancel, or no-show, which had me in a ball of stress. The only way to consistently grow a new event is to produce a consistently great event to shop. I am so thankful for those exhibitors who showed up anyway, even though it wasn’t convenient, and brought amazing merchandise. I and others gave it our absolute all to market the event and the crowds didn’t come. Thankfully the buying power of the few that came was strong. A smart person would look at the numbers and give up on Rogers, but I see enough potential to keep working on it. I want to figure out how events can show up in a new town and be successful from the get-go. I don’t figure I’ll find that solution by giving up. The estate includes an abundance of books, historical items, fly fishing items, vintage and antique furniture, men’s name-brand outdoor clothing and gear (mostly Cabela’s and L.L. Bean, size L). The owners traveled, read, gardened, and created. She made gallery-worthy art and sculpture from seashells. He wrote, designed jewelry and collected books, especially titles pertaining to the West, Native American history, military history, fishing, politics and biographies. There are many rare books and sets, including the 20-volume Writings of Bret Harte set.
