Joshua turns 6 this weekend so we’re getting ready for a big shindig at our house with a bouncy house, pizza, cake, and more! We have so many neighborhood kids that the boys’ birthday parties turn into a super fun block party. We tell everyone not to worry about bringing gifts and just to come have fun. The best part is the bouncy house company drops off the bouncy house on Friday and won’t come get it until Monday so the boys will be bounced out by the time the weekend is over!
The boys went fishing at Beaverfork last weekend. They basically fed the fish the whole time and didn’t catch anything so we’re hoping to find a better fishing hole next time. Little Caleb was determined to catch a fish so he didn’t join us when we played disc golf. Joshua is pretty good at it!
I told y’all I’d post a photo of one of the baby tree frogs last week. After a recount, I found 7 frogs in the terrarium! They are hard to photograph because they are tiny (smaller than a dime) and blend in, but they go crazy when I give them flightless fruit flies and I can find them easier.
Last week I received an email from a (now previous) subscriber telling me this email is a waste of time because it comes out too late in the week. I never understand condescending emails like that one because Ashley’s Finds has always been a free service for everyone involved and I give up many hours each week (plus the expense) to do this. Their opinion could have easily been great feedback (I appreciate constructive criticism!), so I want to address it. While I do agree it would be preferable for the email to be sent out earlier in the week, I know from experience sending the email out earlier only yields an incomplete list of sales. Back in March of 2010 when I created Ashley’s Finds (over 700 emails and 14 years ago), I sent the weekly email out on Tuesday evenings. I’d often have late submissions on Wednesday. A few times I tried sending a second email and had multiple subscribers mark my email as spam. I ended that practice abruptly because when one person marks my email as spam, my email address becomes blacklisted and many others stop receiving my emails regardless of their preference. I regularly receive sale listings late into Wednesday evening even with my 5:00PM deadline, so I am doing what I think is best. I try to log in earlier in the week and approve listings so they show up on the website calendar, so be sure to check it out if you need to plan early.
We have a good looking list of sales for this weekend. Here’s what I know:
