Hope everyone has managed to stay afloat this week with all the rain. I have been so busy doing a million things I have hardly had time to enjoy it. Saturday was packed full of activities just like I like it. I started my day by meeting my parents in Beebe to drop off Little Caleb so he could stay with them while Big Caleb and I completed the boys’ bedroom project Big Caleb started back in March while I was in Longview, Texas. Of course I can’t go to Beebe without visiting some of my favorite shops. If you ever need a great afternoon of shopping, go to Beebe. Do Drop In, The Junk House, The Front Porch, The Depot Vintage Market, and The Apple Tree Mall are fantastic places to find great stuff. I spent wayyy too long junkin’ and had to rush back home to pick up Big Caleb so we could go to Renewal Ranch’s Rally for Recovery that evening in the Conway Expo Center. It was a wonderful event that I wish I would have gone to in years’ past. Renewal Ranch is a Christian-based addiction recovery program for men 21 and older. My buddy Robin told me about them back in 2012 when I needed workers for the shows and since then we’ve been blessed to work with them during every show in Conway, Little Rock, and Maumelle. These days it’s nothing for me to employ 15 or more of them for each show, some for 5 hours and others closer to 40 depending on their schedules. They are some of the best workers and I love hearing exhibitors compliment them. In fact, some exhibitors will call their favorite porters before each show to make sure they will be there to help them. The guys get to keep their hourly wage and tips to help them as they prepare to exit the program, so it’s a complete win-win. The Rally for Recovery was a fundraiser for Renewal Ranch to help fund their operations since they do not receive federal/state funding. Tacos 4 Life catered the event, which was so yummy, and Steve Hutton (PGA Pro) was the keynote speaker. Although Steve’s story was great, my favorite part was watching and listening to the graduates, many of whom I have worked with, walk across the stage with their families and share short testimonies. It was obvious how much the program means to each graduate and their family/friends. Almost every graduate has kids, which makes their success in the program even more important. I was really blessed by the event and so glad we decided to go. The rest of the weekend was spent painting the boys’ bedroom, setting up their beds, and preparing baby clothes and toys. We put the boys’ beds in the same room, but I have no belief whatsoever that Little Caleb and Baby Norris will sleep in the same room right off the bat. I don’t have a better idea where to put the crib right now since we don’t have enough bedrooms, so I’m planning to play this all by ear and do what suits Baby Norris best. I remember practically living in the recliner for the first few months with Little Caleb and figure this little guy will be no different. Except I have a feeling I’ll be spending multiple nights with both Little Caleb and the baby in the recliner. Thank goodness the recliner is amazingly comfortable. I figure I have some challenges ahead of me, but I’m positive they’ll make for some great stories that I look forward to sharing. My guess is we have a couple more weeks to go before the arrival of Baby Norris. I’ll hopefully know more after Friday’s appointment when Baby Norris Watch will begin.
I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend! Here are the sales I know about for this weekend:
