The Good Lord definitely has a sense of humor. Remember last week when I said Little Caleb wanted a turtle and frog for his birthday and I said I didn’t want the responsibility? I received a text from my mom on Friday that she had caught the box turtle she found a couple weeks before. Mom had caught him for Little Caleb back then, but as he was playing with the turtle, he spotted some toads. While he was toad-wrangling, his turtle got away. Apparently the turtle didn’t go far because he showed back up on Friday and Mom caught him. Then on Sunday while we were visiting, Mom and Little Caleb were searching for bugs for the turtle and found a toad! Little Caleb lost the toad around 5 times in one hour inside my parents’ house before we all decided the toad wasn’t a good idea right now. I thought I might get out of keeping the turtle because we didn’t have anything to put it in, but Mom was quick to remind me they still had my fifty gallon “Lizard Lounge” tank from my youth, so we loaded it up in my truck, much to her delight to get it out of the way.
Fast forward to today, Little Caleb’s birthday. Little Caleb has been really into tarantulas, bugs, and reptiles lately, so I decided to get a cake and decorate it with his favorite creatures. The Dollar Tree had exactly what I was looking for – a life-size, fuzzy tarantula decoration and bags of small bugs and reptiles. The cake turned out great and Lil Caleb loved it. His “Rennie” found a huge bag of toy dinosaurs while junking the other day and they became his favorite gift. For some reason Lil Caleb thought it would be a good idea to line them up in front of the turtle tank, which looks hilarious.
