After a rough Spring, Bella Rustina finally had a great turnout and mostly happy exhibitors last weekend. Of course we had to bring in a hurricane, because it always rains during my shows, but thankfully we didn’t have severe weather during show hours. We barely got the school bus of vintage clothing inside the Conway Expo Center. If it wasn’t for Shane literally getting on top of the bus and encouraging the owner to drive close enough so he could see how much room was needed, it probably wouldn’t have happened. As the arrow on top of the bus approached the door frame, Shane picked up the weather stripping for it to barely fit through. We were all thrilled and the bus looked great up front and center. Other exhibitors put together over-the-top booths, so everything looked great. Overall it was an enjoyable, stress-free show, which is my favorite kind.

I couldn’t resist purchasing the Spartus cat clock. Its eyes blink and tail wags as it keeps time purrrfectly. I also bought some great mason jars.
Now I’m moving on to planning the Fall event. I’m excited to announce we’ll be back in Maumelle September 6-8. I’m getting the hang of renting these empty buildings and learning so much about how to maximize the potential of each one I work with. I have so many cool ideas and ways to make the former Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market building even better than it was when we had it last year. Exhibitors are excited and I expect to have a full lineup by next week even though I just announced the Fall date over the weekend. I can’t wait for cooler weather and Fall decorating!
Looks like there are some great sales this weekend. Here’s what I know about:

Estate of Bob and Margaret Emenegger
of Los Angeles, CA and Fayetteville AR
Robert “Bob” Ernest Emenegger is a second-generation Californian. His wife, Margaret Wilburn McLean Emenegger, is a southern girl and spent some childhood years in Arkansas. In 1994, they moved from their home in Los Angeles (Hancock Park) to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and settled into their beautiful historic landmark house, built in 1881 by the Kantz Family. They spent most of their 55 years of marriage carefully and tenderly curating their impressive collection of antiques and collectibles both in Los Angeles and Fayetteville.
Bob started collecting antiques in the early 1960s, with a focus on armor, military accoutrement and swords, and 17th century English furniture. A graduate of UCLA, in the 1950s Bob toured the world performing in USO shows alongside classmate Carol Burnett. He also made music and released a few singles with Burt Convey (one of which may have even gotten some decent attention). Professionally, Bob spent 40 years in the advertising, television and film worlds. He was an award-winning creative director at Grey Advertising (think Mad Men less the vices). While with Grey, he headed major campaigns for Bank of America, Max Factor, Mattel, Honda and Taco Bell. An accomplished composer, he wrote the scores for many television programs and commercials (and in 2009 the Northwest Arkansas Symphony honored his talent by producing “A Night with Robert Emenegger,” playing many of his more noteworthy compositions). He also wrote the music for the 1970s children’s program, Lancelot Link Secret Chimp, which ran on ABC, and directed for PBS’s Sesame Street and The Electric Company. Bob had an interesting side career as an internationally renowned UFO expert, having written and produced the film UFOs Past Present and Future, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense. The film, hosted by Twilght Zone’s Rod Serling and narrated by Jose Ferrer, was also released as a book.
Margaret’s path was no less interesting or creative. Having won a Guest Editorship competition with Mademoiselle Magazine when she was just out of high school, she was the first person to ever interview Andy Warhol, then a little-known commercial illustrator. She went on to become an accomplished commercial illustrator in her own right. With similar tastes and a shared eye and aptitude for discovering quality antiques, she and Bob procured their impressive collection from notable Los Angeles auction houses. But it was Margaret and Margaret alone who oversaw decorating their homes, arranging their pieces into magazine-worthy tableaus. In fact, their Fayetteville home was featured in an edition of Southern Living. Margaret’s sense of style was also on display in the kitchen. She was thoroughly in her element when it came to hosting large dinner parties. She loved feeding people and made sure that no one was alone on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Her guests were treated not only to an extravagant feast, but a warm and inviting atmosphere. She always outdid herself and her table settings were as glorious as her food. Margaret was a one hell of a cook with a flair for southern dishes, and no dinner party was served without pickled watermelon rinds.

Due to popular demand, we are hosting a FLASH Sale at this location. Family has moved and asked us to clear the home of remaining items. A Flash sale is an efficient way to make deals available to the buying public, before the items are cleared away. No staging and tagging, just “let’s make a deal” for the items on property. These days, people are downsizing and re-decorating with things that fit their new space better. This home has a beautiful antique dining room set, a bedroom set, roll top desk, dinette table, stools, contemporary computer station, end and coffee table, as well as book cases and a closet organization shelf unit. There are quilting/sewing supplies and a very nice Singer serge sewing machine. (A serger is not the same machine as a sewing machine. It’s a completely different machine. A serger is “sewing” or binding the fabric together, while it actually CUTS the fabric as well. The blade that cuts the fabric sits right before the needles. Where, on a typical sewing machine you have to cut your project first, then sew.). There is a good bit of yarn and fabric as well.
We have a new in box Doodle & Co Medium wired dog crate, oak wood scraps, a few garage items including a Craftsman circular saw with a diamond blade, new in box gift set grilling utensils, new in box sprayer and new in box painting sprayer, a couple of nice floor lamps, and lamp shades. We have an American doll, costume jewelry, and some bags of marbles/glass beads, a few kids toys (include a nice K’Nex building set), LPs, books, holiday decorations and assorted small home de’cor. Check out the pictures. Come make a deal when you walk right up to the property.
