Upcoming Estate Sales and Auctions for July 25-28

by | Jul 25, 2019

Yesterday I visited Country Club Flea Market’s new location at 9107 HWY 107 Sherwood, Arkansas 72120. The owners of Hidden Treasures (including their adorable dachshunds) retired and the previous Country Club Flea Market building was sold and Country Club Flea Market moved into Hidden Treasures. I’ve never seen the building so full. They have used every square inch of that building to consolidate both shops, which means there’s an opportunity to find something cool around every corner. I bought a wooden ruler shaped into a star and a vintage wine tin. Little Caleb bought a bag of small John Deere tractor toys and Joshua bought a fire truck toy. My mom was with us and she found stuff too. We definitely did our part. 😀

There are a bunch of sales this weekend. I really want to go to the Antique Doorknob Collectors of America Convention. I don’t know anything about old doorknobs and it would be fun to learn. I hope to go if I can squeeze it in. The Maumelle Chamber of Commerce is having a Shop SMAumeLLe event and I just happened to call the Chamber today to ask a question about promoting the September 6-8 Bella Rustina and next thing I know the director has me setting up a table in front of the Chamber of Commerce from 5PM-8PM Thursday evening to advertise the show during their “Christmas in July” event. I ran out of time to decorate with the vintage flamingos during Bella Rustina in Conway, so my goal is to use them during the event tomorrow since the Chamber has a beach theme. After getting less than 4 hours of sleep I don’t know how energetic I will be, but I’ll do my best.

Here are the sales I know about for this weekend:

Estate of Bob and Margaret Emenegger
of Los Angeles, CA and Fayetteville AR
Robert “Bob” Ernest Emenegger is a second-generation Californian. His wife, Margaret Wilburn McLean Emenegger, is a southern girl and spent some childhood years in Arkansas. In 1994, they moved from their home in Los Angeles (Hancock Park) to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and settled into their beautiful historic landmark house, built in 1881 by the Kantz Family. They spent most of their 55 years of marriage carefully and tenderly curating their impressive collection of antiques and collectibles both in Los Angeles and Fayetteville.

Bob started collecting antiques in the early 1960s, with a focus on armor, military accoutrement and swords, and 17th century English furniture. A graduate of UCLA, in the 1950s Bob toured the world performing in USO shows alongside classmate Carol Burnett. He also made music and released a few singles with Burt Convey (one of which may have even gotten some decent attention). Professionally, Bob spent 40 years in the advertising, television and film worlds. He was an award-winning creative director at Grey Advertising (think Mad Men less the vices). While with Grey, he headed major campaigns for Bank of America, Max Factor, Mattel, Honda and Taco Bell. An accomplished composer, he wrote the scores for many television programs and commercials (and in 2009 the Northwest Arkansas Symphony honored his talent by producing “A Night with Robert Emenegger,” playing many of his more noteworthy compositions). He also wrote the music for the 1970s children’s program, Lancelot Link Secret Chimp, which ran on ABC, and directed for PBS’s Sesame Street and The Electric Company. Bob had an interesting side career as an internationally renowned UFO expert, having written and produced the film UFOs Past Present and Future, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense. The film, hosted by Twilght Zone’s Rod Serling and narrated by Jose Ferrer, was also released as a book.

Margaret’s path was no less interesting or creative. Having won a Guest Editorship competition with Mademoiselle Magazine when she was just out of high school, she was the first person to ever interview Andy Warhol, then a little-known commercial illustrator. She went on to become an accomplished commercial illustrator in her own right. With similar tastes and a shared eye and aptitude for discovering quality antiques, she and Bob procured their impressive collection from notable Los Angeles auction houses. But it was Margaret and Margaret alone who oversaw decorating their homes, arranging their pieces into magazine-worthy tableaus. In fact, their Fayetteville home was featured in an edition of Southern Living. Margaret’s sense of style was also on display in the kitchen. She was thoroughly in her element when it came to hosting large dinner parties. She loved feeding people and made sure that no one was alone on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Her guests were treated not only to an extravagant feast, but a warm and inviting atmosphere. She always outdid herself and her table settings were as glorious as her food. Margaret was a one hell of a cook with a flair for southern dishes, and no dinner party was served without pickled watermelon rinds.

Monumental painted Breakfront from 20th Century Fox, Shaker Style Stepback Cabinet, French Daybed, Pine Jacobean Chest, Welsh Dresser, Bog Oak Cabinet, Hanging Corner Cupboard, Regency Sofa possibly signed by Duncan Phyfe, Camelback Sofa, Wingbacks, large Wooden Buddha, huge Oval Dining Table seats 20, 16 painted dining chairs, Chinroserie Bed, collection of Pine Furniture, pair rope beds, painted bed, painted Breakfront, painted silver chest on stand, very unusual French dropfront desk, ebonized cabinet, Hollywood regency credenza, Early Dutch and English Portraits, portrait of Russian Officer, fine and costume jewelry, sterling, much silver plate including old Sheffield, inkwell collection, sword and uniform collection, Leica Cameras, Three Sets of Herend, Nymphenburg, Lenox, Wedgwood, Gorham, early porcelain, Staffordshire Figures, Tobies, transferware, powder horn, huge collections of exotic items and curiosities from around the world, barometers, table clocks, grandfather clock, from around the world, primitive benches, Oak and Mahogany Chests, incredible Oriental Rug Collection, rare and fine books with a specialty on religion, military and armour, lapdesks, tea caddies, pub sign, unbelievable volume of kitchen items and sooooo much more.
