If you’ve never taken your kid or grandkid to the pumpkin patch, I’d say it’s a must-do. The last day is October 31. Last week Little Caleb’s pre-K class was supposed to go out to Schaefers and Collins Pumpkin Patch, but it was rained out. Friday afternoon was so gorgeous that as we were walking out of pre-K I asked Little Caleb if he wanted to go to the pumpkin patch. Of course he did so we headed that way. We spent four hours at the pumpkin patch doing the hay ride, watching the chickens, horses, and other animals, playing on the slides, digging in sand, and so-on. For $4! We didn’t need any pumpkins, so we went on the hayride for $2 each for Little Caleb and me and they didn’t charge for Joshua. Of course we did get a couple slushies and a funnel cake from the concessions, but the food truck was reasonable too. And I was thrilled to find corn stalks for sale there for $6 per bundle. I loaded up four and hope to wrap them up in plastic and store them for Bella Rustina next September. I’ll let you know how it goes!
I’ve had some great news this week. Remember during Bella Rustina when my battery died? At the time I didn’t take my old battery with me when I went to get the new one since I was struggling to get it out of my truck. I went last week to return the new battery to get my $10 credit and Wal-Mart told me that 30 days had passed and I could give them the battery for free, but they wouldn’t give me my $10. That didn’t make me very happy (I probably forgot about the policy since I was distressed at the time) so I just took my dead battery back with me. I Googled if there was anything else I could do to get $10 for the battery and sure enough I found out that AutoZone, O’Reilly’s, and others will give $10 store credit for dead batteries even if you don’t buy your new battery there. I took the dead battery to O’Reilly’s and got a $10 credit toward a new cabin air filter for my truck. The dealership wanted to charge me $80 to replace it, but I was able to get it for $20 (technically $10 with my credit). Now I get to tear my dash apart in my non-existent spare time. Actually it’ll probably end up being a dad and daughter project so I don’t tear anything up.
Dad saved the day with my trailer too. I thought I had broken my trailer when I hit it while backing my truck to attach my trailer (while talking on the phone no less) at the last Bella Rustina, but thankfully I had jacked the trailer up too high. When I hit it, the jack fell along with the empty trailer. My guys were able to lift my trailer up onto the hitch. I noticed there wasn’t any damage to the jack and asked my dad to look at it before I purchased a new one. Sure enough he was able to screw the jack “foot” back in and all is well now. I consider that a huge blessing!
On Sunday I couldn’t resist bidding on some of those awesome headvases in the auction I was drooling over last week. I purchased a couple headvases and some costume jewelry for me and a red glass basket and some vintage kitchen utensils for my Mom. I watched one of the headvases sell for over $3,000! I read it was one of a kind, but once I saw it I realized why it went for so much. It was probably 5+ times the size of a regular headvase – it was impressive!
Today is Little Caleb’s 5th birthday and we’re throwing him a party on Saturday. My neighbor brought over 4 big boxes of Halloween decorations today and Little Caleb and I have already started decorating the house. I’m looking forward to a great time.
