I’m beginning to try different strategies for setup days during the shows for when Little Caleb starts kindergarten next year. My goal is for him to not miss any school days, especially due to my shows. Today I tried to go to the Conway Expo Center to mark off booths but answering a gazillion phone calls set me back so I got less than 2 hours of work done there before I had to go back to Maumelle to pick up Little Caleb from pre-school. I lacked one row marking off all 220ish booths and putting down booth cards and I will finish that up and run electricity tomorrow before exhibitors arrives for setup. Joshua came with me and the first thing he did as we were walking around the building to find an unlocked door was walk through an ankle-high puddle, so he got to run around barefoot while I worked (thankfully the heat was on so he was happy). I brought his little car so he could ride it around in the big open building. The best part was the Expo Center workers found a balloon while they were on their lift replacing light bulbs and they gave it to Joshua. Joshua wore himself out trying to keep up with me, but overall he did great.
Bella Rustina will be amazing this weekend. Sounds like we will have a bunch of vintage Christmas blow-molds, ceramic Christmas trees, old ornaments, aluminum Christmas trees, and all the good stuff. The building will be packed out again like it was in July and I still have people on the waiting list.
Many of you know Shane Westmoreland. He has frequented estate sales and auctions for years around here so if you don’t know him you’ve probably seen him with the best picks from the estate sales (I did find something awesome before he did one time). He gave up a successful corporate job to be a full time antique dealer, so you know he hustles to provide for his wife and 5 kids. He has participated in my shows since 2011, so I’ve gotten to know him and his family. I was very sad to hear his wife was recently diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which is where a person’s auto-immune system attacks the nerves and muscles. My understanding is that doctors have stopped the deterioration, but she has a long, difficult, and expensive recovery ahead of her. A GoFundMe has been set up by Emily and John of Pennsylvania Trading Company if you’d like to contribute online. I’ll be selling Bella Rustina tote bags this weekend at the show and the net proceeds will go to help Shane and his family. Shane will also have his usual booths at Bella Rustina if you’d like to come buy something from him to support him in that way (He has incredible stuff so it’s win-win!).
