Recently on Instagram I saw a photo where someone decorated a whole wall with vintage crewel art. It looked so cool that I decided I’d start buying crewel art as I find it. I quickly noticed the cool crewel art isn’t all that common. I noticed the above piece was in V Smith’s Estate Sale last weekend and fell in love. My mom lives in Searcy where the estate sale took place, so I texted her asking her to get it for me for my birthday in June. On Friday morning I was busy and missed a gazillion calls from my mom. She told me she got there after the sale opened and she couldn’t find the crewel art. I was frustrated for a little bit that I missed her calls, but it wasn’t long before I got over it and went back to work. On Sunday we went to Searcy to visit my parents for Mother’s Day. On the table with the desserts and flowers my sister in law had gotten mom and me was a cookie-sheet sized item covered with a towel. I figured it was more baked stuff and didn’t think anything about it until Mom lifted the towel to reveal the crewel art! She had eventually found the artwork and had to be sneaky to keep me from figuring it out! The colors of the strings are vibrant and well-preserved, so I will keep the art on a wall that isn’t hit by sunlight so those awesome colors will last as long as possible. I’ll keep my eye out for more crewel art – I think it would be cool to make a wall of crewel art for our selfie station at Bella Rustina.
It’s a crazy busy time right now – The Zonta Antique Show is less than a month away in Longview, Texas on June 4-6. Since the show was postponed from the March date, a large number of our usual exhibitors cannot join us because those who are from up North have already gone back home after doing the Spring show circuit. I have been super blessed with calls from exhibitors who joined the show years ago with the original promoter (this is the show’s 48th year) wanting to try the show again. I have vetted all the new-to-me exhibitors and there’s a really good chance this show will be above average. My social media advertising is doing much better than in previous years too, which usually translates to more customers. I’m getting excited! The Zonta Antique Show is a non-profit event where the proceeds go to organizations that help women and children, especially in situations of abuse and human trafficking, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Taxes are due on Monday and I haven’t even started on them yet. I hope you all are in better shape than I am! The sales for this weekend look amazing – I hope you are able to get out and enjoy the sales and not be stuck at home doing taxes (like me). I’ll probably take a break and go to at least one sale.
