School starts in the morning for Little Caleb and I’m not ready. The summer went by so quickly! We went on a quick road trip to Eureka Springs last weekend and had an absolute blast. We pretty much don’t plan our trips – we just go wherever our interests at the moment take us. For example, I’ve passed by the Natural Bridge of Arkansas sign in Clinton, Arkansas many times over the years and never stopped. This time we stopped and it was so neat. In spite of how hot it was outside, it was nice and breezy under the tree foliage. The sounds of the birds mixed with the sight of the gorgeous moss-covered rock formations made it all a perfect representation of Arkansas’s beauty.
There were a handful of small caves and I jokingly told Little Caleb a bear was going to get him and next thing I know he popped out from behind some rocks acting like a bear. The timing of this photo was perfect.
The next day we visited Turpentine Creek in Eureka Springs. It is a wildlife refuge with mostly rescued lions, tigers, ligers, and other big cats. They recently acquired some of the big cats that were owned by the “Tiger King” park. We went on an hour-long tour of the Turpentine Creek campus on a trolley with a guide who told us about the different animals at the refuge. Next time we want to go there and stay in one of their “tree houses” on campus so we can see and hear the animals at night.
Our final adventure that about did me in was the Cosmic Caverns in Berryville. The caverns and their history are incredible. I was amazed how close we were allowed to get to the different formations. The stairs were steep and the bridges and paths narrow, so Little Caleb had a few moments of fear of heights and then Big Caleb was scared to death Joshua would magically fall off the narrow pathways never to be seen again. Then we had Joshua who decided to deal with his anxiety by singing – the whole hour of the tour – regardless of whether the guide was talking or not. It never crossed my mind beforehand the boys would be uneasy in a dark cave. I was a ball of stress when we finally got out of there, but looking back on it, I’m proud of the boys (all 3 of them) for being brave.
A week ago I honestly had no idea where my Fall Bella Rustina would take place. I was waiting to hear back from a realtor on a Little Rock building and she was pretty positive I would get it, so I thought I was in good shape. It wasn’t until Monday that I found out that I couldn’t get the building. I called the Conway Expo Center and the manager said I was on his list of people to call. As I was getting the devastating news that I wouldn’t get the Little Rock building, another event promoter was having to cancel their Conway event on the exact weekend I needed, September 10-12. God’s timing is perfect. Sometimes we don’t understand all the no’s until we get the yes we need. Conway has turned into an amazing location for Bella Rustina and I’m excited to have our Fall event there. I’ll keep trying to find a Little Rock venue in the Spring, but right now I appreciate having the Conway Expo Center to host Bella Rustina in September.
Here are the sales I know about for this weekend:
