Happy December! “Merry Ho Ho”, the Elf on a Shelf, is back at our house this year and Little Caleb (age 7) is all about it. He drew the above drawing at school yesterday, which sealed the deal that Big Caleb and I have to be on our toes to keep the magic alive. Actually what sealed the deal was when I caught Little Caleb having a one-sided conversation with the elf yesterday. Every Christmas is more fun than the last with my silly boys.
This weekend is one of our favorite Maumelle events called “Breakfast with Santa” put on by the Maumelle Lions Club at the Jess Odom Community Center (flyer posted below). This event is where we get our yearly photos with Santa. We’ve had the same Santa for years and he does a wonderful job. This year I get to put the photo backdrop together and I have the perfect props since I’ve done selfie stations at the shows. I plan to use my white antique mantle, a white brick backdrop, vintage “fake fireplace” electric logs that look like they are burning, a Christmas tree, and we’re borrowing a white high-back tufted Hollywood Regency-style chair. The chair is trimmed in the color gold, so I’ll put gold accents where I can. I’m excited to put it all together. I’ll share photos next week. This is a great opportunity to get photos with Santa and also supports the Lions Club when you purchase breakfast.
On a more somber note, I found out yesterday that one of our fellow junkers, Robin Apple, passed away a couple weeks ago. You might not know her by name, but you probably saw her at sales as she was an avid collector, especially of dolls. I got to know her years ago soon after I started this Ashley’s Finds blog because she would respond to my emails with stories about things she had found the previous weekend. She invited Big Caleb and me to her Halloween party one year and both Big Caleb and Phyllis Saugey wore the same clown costume – It was hilarious and I wish I would have gotten a photo.
