| It was my turn to celebrate my birthday on Monday. I didn’t make any plans and just rolled with the opportunities that presented themselves and had a great time! On Saturday I visited my parents and we went to the Bradford Family Auction in McRae. I won a bunch of items I can use for the shows like a measuring wheel and a large tub of Mardi-Gras beads (for SoMardi Gras) as well as some fun vintage. My favorite purchase has to be the jar full of pennies. I spent $30 on it, but I knew there would most likely be some old pennies inside (plus pennies won’t be made anymore starting next year!). Google says there should be around 1,200 pennies in that jar. My preliminary digging has produced a handful of wheat pennies, lots of pre-1982 (95% copper) pennies, a 3-year Alcoholics Anonymous coin, and some foreign coins. Just as Caleb was getting bored with the auction, a box of vintage fishing lures was auctioned off. He won a bunch of large lures, a “The Prez” lure, which is shaped like a peanut in tribute to President Jimmy Carter, along with a huge tackle box. I decided to leave a day early and take the boys with me to Rogers. We went to Blue Zoo, where the boys enjoyed feeding parakeets and stingrays, visited the Lego store, and the boys enjoyed a hibachi grill for the first time. I got to finish measuring the Rogers Convention Center, go shopping at In Retrospect and Recollect, and visit a new friend from the Fayetteville visitor’s center who I met at the most recent SKAL Tourism meeting. Bella Rustina may get recruited to Fayetteville next year – I’ll be going back in August to visit the venues they have in mind for us. The boys and I really enjoyed visiting Rogers, though. There are lots of fun things to do and everyone is super nice. The boys are already asking to go back!
