I always like to check out other shows to see what’s on trend at the moment so I can make sure Bella Rustina and Antique Alley Arkansas both have items that customers want, yet can’t be found easily locally. If none of my exhibitors have the trendy items, I usually go get them myself. For example, the chicken nesting boxes and tobacco baskets that I traveled to get last year. Last weekend there was a show out of state that had an exhibitor who cuts jack-o-lantern faces into metal gas cans using a plasma cutter. They are super cute, but I don’t have a plasma cutter, so one early morning baby feeding last week, it hit me that I could use vinyl to create the faces and not harm the gas can! I recently purchased a vinyl cutter because I order vinyl decals all the time and I can create signs and other things that look more professional than what I have created. The vinyl cutting system I purchased is brilliant and I wish I would have purchased it sooner! I created a vinyl face and applied it to a gas can I had handy. I have attached a photo of how it turned out. I only have two gas cans and think they would look awesome decorating the upcoming September 8-9 Bella Rustina, so I contacted a lady on Facebook Marketplace who was selling a gas can. I showed her what I was doing with them and she was able to find 4 more gas cans and some old metal buckets. Then Chris Penn of 2Brothers contacted me with some really neat metal scrap pieces that will be fun to put faces on too. Right now it’ll probably be a challenge to create and apply faces to all those items before the show (I’m struggling to keep up with emails and phone calls these days), but if a miracle happens and I get some free time, I plan to create a bunch of different jack-o-lantern faces in different sizes and colors to sell at the show so people can apply faces to things they already own. It’s amazing what can come from a 5:00AM baby feeding!
