Little Caleb loves animals and had never seen a horse in person before, so last Friday we went to see the Clydesdales at Riverfront Park. He enjoyed seeing the horses, but seeing them didn’t take long so we ventured out to the park. We really had a blast there! He enjoyed climbing and going through the tunnels, but most of all, he enjoyed the fountain. The best part is when the fountain would stop and he’d venture to the middle and then high-tail it out of there when the fountain started again. He’ll turn two at the end of October and we seriously have more fun every day.
I’m super excited to go to the Junk Ranch in Prairie Grove this weekend. Looks like the weather is going to be awesome and the pickin’ is always good there.

“We (Saline County Preservation, Inc.) formed up in January this year for, among other things, saving the old house at 903 Hwy 5, in Benton. It was my great-grandparents house and now belongs to my cousin Bill Lenz. He has promised to deed it over to anyone who can restore it. We have received a 501c3 nonprofit designation and are working to raise the funds to get a matching grant for restoration.
Hwy 5 is also the old Military Road or Southwest Trail. It was the main artery between St Louis and Dallas in the day. The original house is a log cabin dog trot that was built in 1838, just 2 years after we became a state. The original log cabin is still in there and remodeled through the years, it was standing during the Civil War! My grand-parents, Salome and Joseph Otto Lenggenhager made it into the house that we all remember while growing up. They came in 1891 and added the cupola on the top and a couple more rooms.
This is Salome and Joseph Lenggenhager who bought the house in 1891 on arrival from Switzerland. They are the ones who added the second story dormers and the cupola atop the already existing structure.
We will have general yard sale things, book cases, women’s plus size clothing, mirrors, chairs, decorator knick knacks. People may also bring things to donate to the sale…bring them to the house on Friday afternoon until 6:30pm.”
