On Monday morning I had the pleasure of leading a Zoom video conference with our estate sale agents to discuss how estate sale companies can unite to provide the safest shopping experience for customers as live sales start up again. I was thrilled that everyone agreed on these standards:
- Estate Sale workers and customers will be required to wear face masks at all times inside and outside the home.
- Hand sanitizer will be provided near the entrance of the home. Some agents may have a worker who stands at the door with hand sanitizer and manages how many customers enter the home. Others mentioned having a worker walk through the home to make sure social distancing of 6’ is observed and will offer hand sanitizer to customers.
- During our call some said they won’t allow more than 10 customers in the home at a time following the Phase 1 requirement. Governor Hutchinson will raise the number allowed at indoor gatherings to 50 as of May 18, but social distancing will still be required.
We have some live sales this weekend! Check them out at the bottom of this email. Our estate sale company of the week is Sisters Estate Sales:
###
1.) Business Name:
Sisters Estate Sales
2.) Your Name:
Susan Porter and Fan Dozier. We are sisters.
3.) Names of those who work with you (workers/helpers/employees) during your sales:
Sarah Sparks, Dorylyn Thomas, Jean Button and Suzy Randall is our main team in Northwest Arkansas. We also have an extended team, which includes some of our family members. Our brother Tim Dozier can fix anything, like water that won’t shut off after a washing machine is disconnected!
4.) What cities/area do you cover in Arkansas?
We are based in Fayetteville and Batesville and primarily serve all of north Arkansas and sometimes central Arkansas and other locations. We will travel.
5.) How did you get involved with estate sales?
Susan started in the vintage clothing business in the late ‘70s and opened a shop in The Westport Flea Market in Kansas City in the ‘80s. Friends asked us to do their mom’s estate sale and we were hooked. Our parents were collectors, so we came by it naturally. It is very satisfying to not only move things along to their next home, but just as much, we like the service aspect of helping families who need our skills.
6.) What’s the most interesting thing you’ve found in a sale?
What warms us most is finding items that are important to the family, that they have overlooked. We did a sale for a lovely family whose mother was from Sweden. While cleaning out the cabinet under a bathroom sink, we found a box with what looked like very large pieces of Amber. The family told us their mother used to hunt for amber before she came to the US and had collected every piece.
7.) Do you collect anything?
Nothing in particular. The unusual and things many people think are junk are favorites.
###
I would like to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day weekend! Here are the sales I know about for this weekend:
Wakefield Estate Sales
Thursday – Saturday, May 7 – 9
9:00AM – 5:00PM
104 Jessica Lane
Searcy, Arkansas 72143
Very large downsizing/moving sale for our client, who is an accomplished artist, collector and DIY hobbyist. Featured items include HO model trains and track, vintage Erector sets, German-language cookbooks and vinyl albums, imported lace from Europe, German beer steins, hand-painted gourds, collectible pottery, imported china, etched crystal stemware and more. It has taken three months to get the sale ready, and there is lots to sell, both useful things (kitchen electrics, dishes, pots and pans, lawn items, etc.) and items of whimsy, including boxes of materials for making wind chimes, large gourds ready for crafting. Big-ticket items include a rebuilt antique cash register, a Singer cabinet with drawers, original oil paintings, artist-made jewelry and more. Both the house and the garage are packed. Try not to crowd the door at opening time. We will be here for several days and need to space out the crowd, per social distancing guidelines. Bids for remainders and grouped lots (train track, for example) will be accepted daily.
