Last week I said I was going into my most epic event of my life. It turned out to be the most epic loss of profit in my life, but yet my heart is full. Why? We had an amazing weekend. Exhibitors and myself quickly figured out the huge lack of attendance was experienced by events all over the state. The media hyped up us business owners months ago and then encouraged our potential customers to stay home. My exhibitors and customers were so kind and supportive throughout the whole event. My intention was to create a festival-like atmosphere and I think we accomplished that with the vintage market, bouncy houses, food trucks, and live music. I loved watching one grandmother leave the show and bring back her 9 grandkids to enjoy the bouncy houses. I’d do it all over again except I’d get sponsors to help cover the costs of the band ($12,000), bouncy houses ($1,600), and merchandise ($7,000+). Monday’s perfect weather, the camaraderie of customers, workers, exhibitors, and family, the eclipse, and the band were epic. Vendors, workers, and myself line danced to “I Feel Like a Woman” and did the Macarena to music by 90s cover-band Dial Up. The band is so talented I plan to have them come back for our 10-year anniversary next year. The eclipse was as amazing as I expected. The bright red spot at the bottom of the eclipse was a solar prominence. They didn’t mention those when I went to the solar eclipse convention last year! All the months of preparation and incredible costs were a loss, but I got to experience the eclipse weekend with my favorite people doing what I love, which made it all worthwhile.
Here are the sales I know about for this weekend:
