Before the trip to Maryland, I took Spike, the bearded dragon, the 6 tree frogs, two goldfish, and two crawfish to my parents’ house riding between the boys in the back seat of my truck. Spike had no clue she was to live a life of luxury for 3 weeks. Mom put her enclosure right in front of a bay window so she could look outside. She sent me photos of Spike almost daily. I’d get photos of a grasshopper sitting on Spike’s head with, “lol see the grasshopper on her head?” and a few moments later, “It’s gone now!”. Mom would go into their field behind their home and catch crickets, grasshoppers, katydids, and even cicadas for Spike every day. Google says cicadas are a great treat for bearded dragons – I had no idea! My parents live in the country or I would have asked her to stop because of the chance of pesticides being on the bugs. Spike is alive and well with the biggest belly ever. I just ordered small crickets for the baby tree frogs, which is a step up from flightless fruit flies, so they ate well too!
