Last weekend was awesome! I didn’t get a chance to do any junkin’, but I went to a wonderful women’s conference and the Arkansas Renaissance Festival. My favorite speaker of the women’s conference was Hettie Lue Brooks. She’s 94 years young and most likely the life of any party she attends. She had us rolling with laughter as she had trouble with her headset mic early on, but even as the mic slowly fell down and bounced on her blouse as she spoke (and one time went up her nose!), she continued spouting her wisdom. My favorite point she made was to stop waiting for the perfect time to start something. We never know what tomorrow will bring, so waiting until you have enough money, or the right look, etc, is just procrastinating. I left the conference feeling empowered, which is a great way to be! On Sunday I went with Erin and Jared to the Arkansas Renaissance Festival. We joined other nerds for an afternoon of watching jousting, sword fights, glass blowing, stage performers, and more. Many visitors put a lot of effort into their attire, while we got creative with clothing from our closets. Erin Haugen of The Painted Goat Flea Market (in Conway) had a booth and was decked out as a wizard. He never broke character as he greeted customers and talked to us. He did a great job! As a promoter myself, I appreciate all the hard work the owner put into the festival and hope it was a successful endeavor. I’ll definitely plan to go again next year and take the boys.
The Bernice Garden will be hosting a vintage market October 19th. A few years ago they hosted a monthly vintage market that was a blast to both shop and vend at, so I’m hoping they are getting it started back up again!
